Material Purchasing Coordinator

Summary

Responsible for the purchase and rental of general and specialized equipment and materials for construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the material, initial site mobilization (trailers, washrooms, fencing, hoarding, surveying, etc.) and rental purchasing process
  • Obtain competitive pricing from several suppliers
  • Analyze pricing received to ensure prices are complete and comparable
  • Compare pricing to budget
  • Negotiate and finalize order of material
  • Prepare material purchase orders and distribute/process accordingly
  • Interact with Project Team (Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Site Superintendents) as well as the Accounting Team
  • Interact with Supplier and Rental Companies
  • Manage/update a database of material suppliers and rental companies
  • Manage/update the tool and equipment registry
  • Assist in the tender analysis of some Division 8 (Hollow metal doors, Hardware, Wood Doors, Automatic Operators, etc.) and Division 10 (Washroom Accessories, Louvres, Foot Grilles, etc.) purchases

Human Resources Generalist

Summary

As Human Resources Generalist your primary responsibility will be the day to day management of human resources at Buttcon.  Reporting to the Office Manager your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the administration and maintenance of Buttcon’s Human Resource programs and policies, recruitment, employee file maintenance, training, benefits administration, employee engagement and employee relations. This position works closely with both management and employees to administer programs and practices that support company objectives, legislative compliance, and company culture.

Specific Accountabilities (in priority order of time for this position)

  1. Responsible for the administration and coordination of the recruitment process and the on-boarding program.
  2. Reinforce the company policies and procedures to ensure employee safety.
  3. Responsible for the coordination and administration of Buttcon’s HR policies and procedures and the maintenance of our Employee Handbook
  4. Ensuring proper processing of benefits while educating employees with respect to company benefits program.
  5. Responsible for maintaining and compiling of employee job descriptions, employment contracts, employee information and legislative requirements to help determine and calculate separation agreements in accordance with the Labour Standards Act
  6. Responsible for the coordination of employee training initiatives. This includes the development, delivery, and evaluation of in-house training programs and/or sourcing external training programs with reputable suppliers
  7. Work with applicable partners and employees to ensure mutually beneficial return to work strategies with regards to disability case management (STD, LTD)
  8. Oversee and assist in ensuring that employee labour laws and regulations are being supported and in compliance.
  9. Conduct and analyse exit interviews and make actionable recommendations based the collected data
  10. Other tasks as required

General Accountabilities

  • Provide support for managers and/or employees on employment related issues, policies and procedures, human rights, and employment legislation to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees and to ensure consistent practices are followed throughout the organization
  • Partner with Safety to promote and create a healthy and safe work environment
  • Responsible for the analysis and recommendations for the annual Human Resources budget
  • Participate in the organization of company events and activities

Qualification Requirements

  • A Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management and/or a combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience in a Human Resources Specialist or generalist position
  • CHRP certification preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of Human Resources practices and principles, as well as all applicable labour, human rights, and health and safety legislation
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Construction or related industry experience (preferred)

Working Conditions and Environment

  • Primary work location – Head Office
  • Some travel to project sites may be required – exposure to construction work site environment
  • Occasional travel to Buttcon East located in Ottawa, Ontario

Senior Project Manager

Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for leading project teams for one or more projects, while managing all aspects of the project life cycle ensuring required performance deliverables of quality, cost and schedules are achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of the project
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining excellent relationships with owners, architects, consultants, trades & public, while promoting Buttcon’s services and ensuring client satisfaction
  • Ensure compliance with Buttcon’s Health and Safety Program, provide key leadership, set examples, ensure safety minutes are provided
  • Ensure compliance to Buttcon’s Policy & Procedures Manual
  • Supervise, mentor, coach and train project personnel
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding with the terms of contract documents
  • Ensure Notice of Project is issued
  • Ensure that all permits, insurance and bonding are in place
  • Assist in the tendering and award of trade contracts
  • Convene pre-construction meeting
  • Ensure material and subcontractor tenders are issued in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all subcontractors receive drawings and specifications
  • Manage the budget process
  • Participate in the design process when required
  • Manage the value engineering process when required
  • Prepare the baseline schedule; maintain and update it throughout the project. Track delays and apply for Extensions of Time and additional costs. Ensure letter of delay are issued when required.
  • Manage the Change Order process
  • Manage cash allowances
  • Manage and resolve contractual and technical issues with consultant’s and trades
  • Prepare and present monthly Project Cost Reports
  • Prepare a cash-flow and update it as required
  • Prepare monthly progress billings and monitor receipt of payment certificates
  • Review and authorize sub-trade and material payments and ensure accurate cost coding
  • Ensure that sub-trade/supplier’s accounts are reconciled
  • Process shop drawings/ samples
  • Ensures submittal log and RFI logs are prepared and implemented
  • Conduct regular site reviews and meetings; ensure that minutes are distributed accordingly
  • Deal with all day to day correspondence and ensure that the job site receives all correspondence in a timely manner
  • Apply for substantial performance and total completion
  • Ensure that deficiencies are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Ensure that all final monies are received at the end of project
  • Act as a liaison between all Project Team members, both internal and external
  • Assist in securing new work by participating in estimates, proposals and presentations as requested

  • Engineering degree (Civil/Construction/Architectural) or Technical College diploma in Construction Management or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Project Manager in the ICI construction industry or equivalent in ICI construction.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, equipment, methods), industry practices, estimating/budgeting, scheduling, and safety requirements
  • Gold Seal Certified an asset
  • LEED Accredited an asset
  • Computer literate, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project
  • Suretrak, Primavera P3 or P6
  • Axis Accounting Software an asset
  • Procore and BIM software knowledge an asset
